SHILLONG, NOV 15: Chief Secretary RV Suchiang has assured that the state government will examine the demands raised by the deficit school teachers in the state.
The assurance was made during a meeting held with the delegation of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) held on Monday.
“The chief secretary had assured us that the state government will soon examine all issues of the deficit teachers before taking necessary action within a month or two,” President of the Association Babu Kular Khongjirem told reporters after the meeting.
The demands include increasing the Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) schemes from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh as per the recommendation made by the 5th Pay Commission, to release the salary on monthly basis, reimbursement of medical expenses, to implement the MACPS for teachers who are not getting promotion and to release the pending arrear before December 25, he said.
According to him, there are over 3000 plus deficit teachers in the state and majority of them have served for more than 40 years yet none of them receives any financial aid when they retire from the profession.
“We as teachers are not immune against any illness or sickness but till date no deficits receive reimbursement of medical expenses and we have also demanded from the chief secretary to implement the paternity leave with pay as for now deficits teachers who take maternity leave need to adjust the payment with the school managing committee” he added.
