SHILLONG, OCT 15: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday asked the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) to meet him personally for an explanation on the appointment of a regular Director General of Police (DGP), instead of going to the press.
His statement came in response to VPP’s demand for an explanation from the state government over alleged delay in appointing a regular DGP after the UPSC had to issue a second reminder.
“What delay? When is this present incumbent DGP retiring?” Tynsong countered.
The present DGP Idashisha Nongrang is set to retire in November this year.
On VPP’s claim about UPSC’s second reminder, Tynsong said, “Well, whatever the UPSC or Ministry of Home Affairs, we are complying with all the procedures. So in case they want to know more, I would like to request them to come and meet me personally.”
“It is not proper just to talk in the press about these official issues which need to be… If they want, not necessarily to go to the press like this, let them come and sit across the table, I will explain to them the actualities,” he added.
