SHILLONG, NOV 21: The South West Khasi hills district police arrested two hardcore proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militants and two overground workers of the outfit on Thursday at Jakrem from a public bus all the four were travelling.
South West Khasi hills district SP Debangshu Sangma informed that the arrest was made after police received intelligence inputs about their journey to Mawkyrwat by a public bus at around noon and accordingly the bus was intercepted at Jakrem and all the four were arrested.
Among those arrested is the HNLC militant Sakaria Thongni who Sangma said was a prized catch as he had already served three years jail term earlier. Thongni, a resident of Mawpdai village in the district, had had been sentenced under the Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act way back in 2008.
The others who were arrested were identified as Golden Star Lyngdoh, Pynshailang Nongtrai and Federick Syiemiong.
Huge cache of incriminating documents including demand notes of the outfit and Bangladesh SIM cards were seized from their possession.
The local court remanded the four to seven days police custody.- By Our Reporter
