SHILLONG, NOV 15: The Civil Society Women Organization (CSWO) president Agnes Kharshiing, who was detained since Saturday, was granted bail by the district court headed by deputy commissioner (judicial) A Ripnar on Friday. Kharshiing was arrested on charges of obstructing the MUDA officials on the eviction drive at Umsawli. The bail was granted on Friday evening after the court had reserved its judgment earlier on the day.
It is learnt that Kharshiing’s acceptance of the bail bond (the conditions that she has to undertake) will be heard on Saturday.
Kharshiing was arrested for filing of an FIR by MUDA officials for obstructing them in the eviction drive they were carrying at Umsawli against alleged encroachers who had occupied the land where the state government will be constructing the New Shillong Township (NST). Kharshiing bail applications were rejected twice earlier. – By Our Reporter
