SHILLONG, JULY 10: Four persons were recently admitted in Nazareth hospital after they got food poisoning as the packed food they consumed was contaminated. The packed food was bought from Mikado restaurant in Police Bazaar.

The four of whom three are minors were admitted at the Nazareth hospital on Sunday when they started vomiting continuously after they had consumed the packed noodles bought from Mikado.

“I had packed home the noodles from the restaurant for my wife and three kids but just after consuming they started vomiting and we had to rush them immediately to the hospital,” said A Bareh, a resident of Nongshilliang.

As per the medial sickness certificates issued by the Nazareth Medical Officer, the four were declared to be affected by food poisoning, Bareh said while displaying the documents at a news conference on Wednesday.

Bareh informed that the four members of his family which included his wife, Relangti Suchiang and her three children Phida Aiti Suchiang (7), Theiwanki Suchiang (6) and Wankanidale Suchiang (5) were already discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

Bareh on Thursday took up the matter with the Khasi Students Union (KSU) whose members  went to the restaurant to bring to its management notice about the incident.

A member of the management from the restaurant Surja Banerjee accepting the medical reports decided to pay compensation of only Rs 9460 to the family against the actual hospital discharge bill which was of Rs 14,000.

Meanwhile, the KSU has issued strict warning to all restaurants and food outlets of stern action if any of them is found to supply stale and contaminated foods which will affect the health of the consumers.

“We would also conducted an inspection to all these business establishment to keep a check on all round health perspective issues to prevent such incident from recurring in the days to come,” KSU education secretary Donald Thabah told reporters. –By Our Reporter
