SHILLONG, APR 26:The Election Commission has announced that the bye-election to the Ampati Assembly seat in South West Garo Hills will be held on May 28.
This was informed by the Meghalaya chief electoral officer F R Kharkongor here on Thursday.
The bye-election was neccesitated following the resignation of the former chief minister Mukul Sangma as an MLA of Ampati.
Sangma, also the Leader of Opposition, had won from two seats he contested in the February 27 elections.
He later decided to quit the Ampati seat and retained the Songsak seat in East Garo Hills district.
Kharkongor informed that the notification for the Ampati bye-election will be issued on May 3 while the last date of filing of nominations will be May 10and the next day will be the scrutiny of nomination papers.
He said that the last date of withdrawal of nominations will be on May 14and the bye-elections will be held on May 28.
The results for the bye-election will be declared on May 31.
Meanwhile, the election for the countermanded Williamnagar seat will be held tomorrow.
