SHILLONG, FEB 17: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Wednesday demanded that the chief minister Mukul Sangma direct the state police to immediately drop the case filed against the tourist-taxi driver, who was booked under section 307 IPC (attempt to murder).
At the same time, the HYC also questioned the competency and efficiency of the state police while handling this particular case.
“We demand the chief minister to direct the police to drop the case against the driver,” HYC general secretary Robertjune Kharjahrin said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He also said, “The chief minister should also direct the state police to apologize from the driver and his family since their action has put them in a very difficult situation.”
On February 11, Jeskalur L Mawdoh, the driver of the Mahindra Max, which hit the official vehicle carrying the chief minister, was arrested and booked under section 307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The FIR against the driver was filed by the inspector in-charge ring round of the Chief Minister’s security.
The HYC has also demanded the police who are the investigation agency to use their skills while enforcing the law to ensure justice to the public at large.
“Otherwise if this is how they function, then it will be better that there will be no police at all in the state,” Kharjahrin said.
Stating that the HYC doubts the police investigation skill and feels they are totally incompetence to serve the public of the state, the HYC leader questioned how can a driver by accident hit a car of CM with no injuries to anybody and it can be consider as an act to attempt murder n book under sec 307 IPC?
Referring to some witnesses who have alleged that it was the CM’s driver fault on that day, Kharjahrin said the question now arise as who attempt to murder whom, the driver attempt to murder CM or the CM driver attempt to murder the passenger in the sumo.
He went to cite the case related to former police officer PJ Marbaniang, who was found shot dead in his official quarter at Patharkhmah, Ri Bhoi District.
“Here the state police say that the cop had committed suicide. Even though it is proved that a bullet which killed the cop shows that he was shot from the back of his head. Even ordinary people know that such incident is a case of murder and not suicide but ironically it is only to the Meghalaya police it is a case of suicide,” he alleged.
Kharjahrin said comparing the two incidents, it clearly shows that the state police have no skills and are highly incompetent. –By Our Reporter
