SHILLONG, SEPT 17: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said the police have been instructed to be more proactive in view of the rising incidents of arson in Shillong, where miscreants have hurled petrol bombs at government establishments, government vehicles and police stations.
“That is being taken care of by the police and I have already instructed the DGP to be more proactive,” Tynsong said.
“Not only that, even the concerned offices, I have already instructed them that you have to further strengthen the security by installing more CCTV properly in wherever the area is required, it has to be done and at the same time the police to also further strengthen the patrolling in the city,” he added.
Asked how long the situation will continue, the deputy chief minister said, “You cannot say for how long, you see criminal activities happen every minute. Let me tell you one thing, we assure the public from the government side, whatever is possible we will do it and we will not tolerate this kind of criminal activity that happens every day and I warn once again, those criminals, to stop criminalization and the law will follow them and justice has to be done.”
On whether additional forces are required, he said, “Do we need that, for that, we don’t need. Our own police force as of today is good enough to handle the situation.”
