Shillong, Dec 3: To orient the prospective stakeholders of cluster development in Meghalaya and evolve collective efforts in a participatory manner, a one day long sensitization workshop on Cluster Development was organized by the Regional Resource Centre (RRC) of Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) Monday. The workshop also aims at evolving synergy among various prospective actors for cluster development.
Commissioner & Secretary Industries and commerce L Kharkongor was the chief guest, W Langstang, Director Commerce & Industries department chaired the inaugural session.
During the technical session of the workshop Dr. SS Baruah, head centre for industries extension of IIE gave a presentation on the Cluster Development and its approaches and basic idea of Cluster Diagnostics studies.
The workshop targeted the officials of industries, banks, financial institution and the line departments of government of Meghalaya.
It is pertinent to mentioned here that the union ministry of MSME has mandated IIE to setup a RRC on cluster development primarily to propagate cluster development approach in North East India. The RRC has its nodal office in the premises of IIE Guwahati with state centre in rest of the seven states of the region including Sikkim. The programme aims at a holistic approach towards capacity building, provide handholding support and devising policy interventions in sustainable cluster development.
The objective of the workshop was to orient the cluster stake holders on cluster development for identifying the clusters, implementation as well as the diagnostic studies.- By Our Reporter
