SHILLONG, AUG 31: Twenty-six more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 while 113 persons have recovered from the viral infection on Monday, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 1,196 and total recoveries to 1,162.
Health Minister Alexander Laloo Hek said 14 new cases – all civilians, were detected from East Khasi Hills district, 5 including one BSF jawan and four civilians from West Garo Hills district, four civilians from East Jaintia Hills district and one each from Ri Bhoi district and South West Garo Hills district.
He said 15 are high risk contacts, 3 are influenza like illnesses (ILI) cases, 9 are returnees and two from the Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces.
Hek also informed that the 113 new recoveries include 80 from East Khasi Hills, 26 from West Garo Hills, 3 from East Jaintia Hills and 2 each from Ri Bhoi and North Garo Hills.
The state has so far recorded a total of 2,368 positive COVID-19 cases of which 1,196 are active, 1,162 have recovered and 10 have died due to the deceased.
Meanwhile, a total of 88,963 samples have been sent for testing of which 85,924 were found to be negative while test results of 671 are awaited.
There are 32,573 entrants from outside the state as of Monday.
When asked, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said most of the returnees are residents of the state and few are highly skilled labourers from outside. According to him, so far no positive cases have been detected from the highly skilled labourers who entered the state.
