SHILLONG, MAR 2: The countdown has started to the much-awaited poll result in Meghalaya which will decide the fate of as many as 361 candidates.
Counting of votes for the 59 out of 60 assembly seats in Meghalaya would be held tomorrow amid tight security.
“The counting will start at 8am sharp in 13 venues in eleven districts and two civil sub-divisions of the state,” Chief electoral officer Fredrick Roy Kharkongor said.
Elections were held on February 27.
Kharkongor said that 11 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been retained to ensure tight security in all the 13 counting centres.
In order to control any post-poll scenario, he said that another six additional companies have been deployed for maintaining law and order during the counting.
“Close circuit televisions (CCTVs) and also web casting will be placed in all the counting centres,” the CEO said while informing that the strong room where the EVM and VVPAT machines are kept are also put under round the clock guarding.
The total 361 candidates also include 32 females and 80 Independents.
The overall poll percentage was at 85.23 per cent.
Over 15.35 lakh of the total 18.09 lakh eligible voters for the 59 constituencies came out to vote and the percentage of female voters was recorded at 86.71 per cent while the male voters at 83.72 per cent.
