SHILLONG, JAN 12: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has demanded the MDA government to promptly disburse the outstanding salaries of 288 contractual staff nurses for November and December.
“The Party therefore, demanded that the government should disburse the salary of these contractual nurses immediately,” VPP Spokesperson B Myrboh said in a statement issued on Monday.
According to him, the non-release of their salary has put their lives and families in great hardships. Besides celebrating Christmas and New Year penniless, the employees are faced with difficulty to meet the expenditure related to education of their children.
“The government should not forget that these nurses have to feed themselves and their families. It is highly disappointing and condemnable that the staff who serve other fellow citizens are left high and dry by the government,” Myrboh added.
The VPP has urged the state government to prioritize the payment of salaries, emphasizing the importance of committing to the basics of governance.
“It is in this context that the VPP has always been advising the state government to avoid wasteful expenditure but commit to the basics of governance,” Myrboh stated.
