SHILLONG, OCT 28: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday said the Congress is working to restore its lost ground in the North East and will fight communal polarisation and political poaching by the ruling dispensation.

After holding a meeting with party leaders and workers in Shillong, Chowdhury said the enthusiasm among workers shows the party is rejuvenating in the region.

“You must acknowledge the fact that the North East is such a place where we shall be striving hard to restore our lost ground. Like other states, in Meghalaya also we have been subjected to political poaching by the ruling dispensation. So the Congress party will be striving hard to restore its lost ground,” he said.

Alleging that regional parties have become alliance partners of the BJP, he said, “We are suffering because of communal polarisation and other narrow politics being played by the ruling dispensation. Most of the regional parties in the NE region have become alliance partners of this government. In order to continue their power and pelf, they have been exhausting their resources to weaken the Congress party.”

“But like other parts of the country, here also the Congress party has been rejuvenating and you yourself have observed today the enthusiasm of our party workers sitting in the party office. We have been discussing our strategies,” he added.

Expressing confidence, Chowdhury said, “Certainly, each and every inch of NE region which we have lost will be restored by whatever means. Today, tomorrow, the North East will again be back in the fold of the Congress party.”
