SHILLONG, OCT 4: Union Minister of State for Water Resources River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal today said the Centre has made an elaborative plan to clean all the rivers in the country including those in the North Eastern region.
“Rivers in the North East are also included in the list,” Meghwal told reporters at the sidelines of a mega exhibition cum seminar on March of Parliamentary Democracy and the Constitution of India held in the city here on Wednesday.
Stating that the NE is a focus area of the Centre, he said, “We are regularly reminding our ministers to come here and submit a report on what interventions are required for the development of the region.”
Asked, Meghwal also assured that all the pending projects of Meghalaya under the water resources will be cleared within few days.
Informing that he had also reviewed all the projects in the state which are pending for approval, he said, “We will also observe water week in New Delhi and many officers from here will attend the meet and so whatever pending projects are pending, we will clear it and accordingly release the necessary funds within few days.”
It may be mentioned here, the Meghalaya government in the past years had submitted a detailed project report (DPR) of Rs 4645.817 lakh under the ‘flood control on flash flood for cleaning and preserving Umshyrpi River and Wahumkhrah River.
However, the project is still awaiting the approval of the Water Resources Ministry.
