SHILLONG, JUNE 4: Saying that he is concerned of lack of job opportunity in rural area as he also comes from rural background, Meghalaya Community and Rural Development minister Prestone Tynsong informed that his department has made an effort and has come out with a document to aid youths in identify business opportunity.
Releasing a book titled ‘Report on Business Opportunity Identification Study of Meghalaya’ on Thursday, Tynsong informed that few areas have been identified in the document that has been prepared by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad in collaboration with the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) of the state.
The 290 pages reports on “Business Opportunity Identification Study of Meghalaya” is the initiative of the SIRD under the Meghalaya C&RD department to alleviate the problem of unemployment in the state by indicating business opportunity to the youths in various sectors in the state.

Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri, C&RD principal secretary KN Kumar, Water Resources etc principal secretary RM Mishra, Registrar of Cooperative Societies BDR Tiwari, C&RD joint secretary T Lyngwa and other government officials.
The “Business Opportunity Identification Study” report will benefit the youth who are looking for entrepreneurs’ opportunities in the state and wants to start their own business.
While speaking during the release of the document, Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri lauded the C&R department and its officers saying that the effort is a “job well done.” He spoke of how lots of money is flowing out of Meghalaya because the state lacks in production of many essential items which has to be brought from outside. He gave an example of the insufficiency in fish and egg production in the state which has to be brought all the way from Andhra Pradesh.
However, he said the state is now looking to cut down on importing these items from Andhra Pradesh hinting that Meghalaya will soon be self sufficient as the state had launched the Meghalaya State Aqua Mission to increase fish production.
C&RD department principal secretary KN Kumar harped on the role the banks, especially the private banks, can play in helping youths to set up their business and improve its CD ration in the state.
Kumar said as the state government can no longer provide jobs to the majority of youths in the state, so his department thought of resolving this issue by making serious effort of not only giving skill training but also identifying sectors in the state where the youths can venture of starting their own business.
Kumar said the problem in Meghalaya is not only unemployment but also the employbility of the youths who might not have skills to start on their own. He said the department will assist the youths in getting themselves skilled and help in the sectors which have been mentioned in the report for starting their business,
