SHILLONG, JAN 26: A powerful blast in Ladrymbai in East Jaintia hills on Tuesday afternoon created panic but fortunately no one was injured. According to the police, the blast took place at a junction towards Rymbai village which is approximately about 40 feet away from the National highway -44.
Police said that the blast took place at around 2 pm. East Jaintia hills SP Spill Thamar said that the source of the blast came from a dustbin that was lying on the road. He said though nobody was injured, the blast did affected nearby dwelling structures as the window panes were broken.
Thamar informed that the sound of the blast was quite powerful but no splinters were found in the site where the explosion occurred. The FSL team from Shillong rushed to the site and conducted an inspection. The team collected samples from the site for necessary examination, he said. Thamar, however, said that he does not suspect the hands of any militant outfits and instead guessed that it could be the handiwork of some miscreants of vested interests.
Nonetheless, he said investigation into the blast has already begun to unravel as to who is behind the blast. According to Thamar, he said the blast is suspected to be from dynamite and not a bomb. He also felt that had the blast taken place during a busy day then the blast would have been tragic as the road is always busy and milling with people. But since Tuesday was a holiday due to Republic Day the shops were closed and many vehicles were off the road.-By Our Reporter
