SHILLONG, NOV 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya state today said there is no relationship between the saffron party and the Art of Living following a day after one of its party members was arrested for allegedly aligning with a banned militant outfit-the HNLC.
Khroo Lamsalanki Pariat (39) from Jowai, who was arrested along with an international faculty member of the Art of Living yesterday, was also also a member of the BJP from West Jaintia Hills District.
Pariat, also a member of the Art of Living, and Samir Jolly of Noida were arrested from Dawki while they were heading to Sylhet, Bangladesh for a meeting with the top members of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Tuesday.
However, the BJP state leadership has completely denied having any knowledge about Pariat’s association with the Art of Living.
“There is no relationship between the BJP and the Art of Living,” a state leader David Kharsati told reporters here on Wednesday.
Not denying that Pariat is a member of the party, another leader of the party Bashai Khongwir however said “He (Pariat) is just an executive member of the party in the district.”
Expressing shock at his arrest, Khongwir said that it is Pariat’s personal choice and personal activity and it has got nothing to do with the party.
Asked, he said, “Let the law takes its own course. If he is found to be guilty, he will be sacked from the party.”
