SHILLONG, MAY 18: BJP president Rikman G Momin on Monday led a delegation of the Federation of Licensed Exporters of Meghalaya to meet Union Minister for Commerce & Industries Piyush Goyal, seeking the Centre’s intervention to ease export bottlenecks affecting India-Bangladesh trade through the state.

“The delegation held an in-depth discussion with the Minister on various issues that are impeding international border trade between India and Bangladesh through Meghalaya,” said a statement issued by the BJP after the meeting.

According to the Federation, exporters in the state have been facing a series of technical and administrative hurdles in recent times.

The body sought the Union Government’s intervention and assistance in easing export related bottlenecks that have cropped up in the state during recent times.

Goyal assured the delegates that the concerns would be addressed.

“The Union Minister assured the delegates that he would look into the matter and ensure that ease of doing business is maintained and technical glitches coupled with administrative delays don’t lead to loss of revenue for Meghalaya’s exporter community,” the statement stated.

“The Minister has delegated Joint Secretary, Commerce & Industries to initiate a secretary level GOM meeting at the earliest to resolve the long pending issues faced by exporters who can furnish necessary legal permits,” it added.
