SHILLONG, DEC 27:The laying of the Foundation Stone for the construction of the 22.75 Crore Indoor Stadium was today held at Mawbynna Village, Pomlakrai Area approximately about 16 Kms from the State Capital, Shillong. The Foundation Stone was laid by the Honourable Minister, in-charge of Urban Affairs, Arts and Culture, etc Ronnie V. Lyngdoh in the presence of the Local MDC H.S. Shylla, Director of Sports and Youith Affairs Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, Shri. John F. Kharshiing, Chief Engineer of the Meghalaya State Sports Council, Shri. James Lakiang, The Chairman and the Secretary of the Pomlakrai Dorbar Pyllun Shri Valentine Kharkongor and Shri W. Sohtun and other Traditional Heads of the 6 villages falling under Pomlakrai Pyllun (Pomlakrai Village Council) comprising of Umiew Village, Liewlong Village, Pdengshnong Village, Mawtharia Village, Mawbynna Village and Rngi Shyllong Village, Members of the various Sports and Youth Associations of Pomlakrai Area, beside other dignitaries.
It may be noted here that the construction of the Indore Stadium at this location is due to the initiative of the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr. Mukul Sangma as a strong initiative for the roadmap preparation for the Nation Games 2022 to be held in Meghalaya coincides with its Golden Jubilee of Statehood.
In her Speech, The Director of Sports & Youth Affairs, Smt. Matsiewdor War Nongbri commended the role and the initiatives taken by the 6 Dorbar Shnong (Traditional Village Council) under Pomlakrai Dorbar Pyllun along with the present Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, Shri. John F. Kharshiing to make room for the Indoor Stadium to be constructed in the area. She also explained to the public about the Indoor Pitch Size which would be 50m x 24m. This venture is under the joint initiative of the North Eastern Council and the Government of Meghalaya and the time for the completion of the project is scheduled to be completed in 2 (Two) Years time covering an Area Building of 2100.00 Square Meters that would hold a Capacity of 1700 spectators.
“There will also be clear minimum vertical height from Indoor Pitch of 14 m to 15 m as per standards for International Sports events. There will also be facilities for players, sports personnels, supporting staffs, technical staffs, media and press as well. There will also be separate enclosure for VVIPs/VIPs and Corporate Sponsorship. There will also be Acoustic Treatment at Indoor roofs and walls as well. The Indoor Stadium will also include Artificial Lighting at Indoor pitch as per requirements for indoor games media still and video capturing. The structure of the Indoor Stadium will be designed as per seismic and earthquake parameters. The proposed Indoor Stadium is 1. Functional efficient, 2. Aesthetically 3. Structurally safe and sound and 4. Economically Designed.” She added.
In his Speech, the Local MDC of Nongkrem Constituency HS Shylla said that by the construction of the Indoor Stadium in this area it would help and inspire the Young budding talents to take up sports as a career on a regular basis as this would be a source of earning their livelihood.
In his speech the Working President of MSOA Shri John F. Kharshiing said by the construction of the Indoor Stadium it would be one of the major steps towards the preparation for the 2022 National Games to be held in Meghalaya. He also informed that the National Games too be held in Meghalaya will be the 3rd of its kind in the North Eastern part of the Nation after Manipur in 1999 and Assam in 2007. He also said that it is a matter of prestige and Pride for Meghalaya as the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to allot the National Games to Meghalaya under the strong initiative and political of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma.
As the Chief Guest of the Function, the Honourable Minister in-charge of Urban Affairs, Arts & Culture, Shri. Ronnie V. Lyngdoh said that the Construction of the Indoor Stadium, the first of its kind in the State is possible only with the initiation and the daringness of the Present Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma. He also emphasis on the need strong cooperation with the stakeholders and make this initiative a success. “This Indoor Stadium is a gift to the people, the sportspersons, the sport lovers by the people of Pomlakrai Pyllun including villagers of Six Villages of Pomlakrai Pyllun (Pomlakrai Village Council) comprising of Umiew, Liewlong, Pdengshnong, Mawtharia, Mawbynna and Rngi Shyllong Villages. In the meantime Dr. Mukul Sangma sent his goodwill message to all the villagers of Pomlakrai Pyllun including their Rangbah Shnong informed Ronnie V Lyngdoh in the meeting.
