SHILLONG, MAY 30: Bank employees in the state staged a demonstration as part of the 2-day nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) which started on Wednesday.
In the state’s capital, around 400 bank employees demonstrated in front of the SBI’s administrative office at Dhankheti. The strike has paralysed banking activity all over the state.
The agitating bank employees under the banner of the UFBU, an umbrella organization of the officers and workmen of public sector banks in India, are demanding early settlement of their long overdue wage revision and improvement in service conditions.
The salary revision is demanded for all workers up to scale VII that is up to the level of general managers (GMs).
The strike has also been called in opposition to the delay in salary revision and the paltry 2 per cent hike offered to them. Meanwhile, the strike will continue till tomorrow.
