TURA, AUG 21: The Baghmara town of South Garo hills remain affected by rising water even in other parts of Garo hills district water receded. There has been no report of human loss or casualty so far.

The Simsang river is flowing above danger level in Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo hills. The market in the town is still under water. Paddy fields along the Simsang are also under water.

“The mudslide along various routes in the district has been cleared by PWD (roads). The low-lying areas along the Simsang is still under water”, said SN Marak, deputy commissioner of South Garo Hills.

In North Garo Hills, the NDRF has been kept on standby. “Water level has receded. However, we have instructed officers to be on alert in the district”, said SC Sadhu, deputy commissioner of North Garo hills.

In West Garo Hills, the administration is monitoring the situation in the plain belt area. The MHA has issued an advisory that water level has risen in Brahmaputra, which is likely to have an impact in Phulbari, Rajabala and Selsella.

“The Selsella block is being closely monitored as water levels are still on the rise despite a let up of rain. If the situation worsens, we will look at moving people to designated shelter camps. We are taking the MHA warning very closely and officials are on standby in case of any adverse conditions”, said Pravin Baksi, DC of West Garo hills.

The South West Garo hills and East Garo hills districts is said to be safe as of now.- From Our Correspondent
