Shillong, August 29: To show the proactive role the Karnataka government had taken in handling the perceived threat to north east origin people and students in the state, the Karnataka government handed over a booklet on the several steps taken to quell the fear and assured security to them.
The booklet was handed over to the Meghalaya ministerial fact finding team led by AT Mondal also consisting of ministers Ampareen Lyngdoh and AL Hek. Mondal shared the booklet with reporters during a press briefing held Wednesday.
The booklet listed seventeen cases that was registered by Karnataka police, twenty-two accused arrested, thirty four thousand six hundred and twenty seven NE people leaving Karnataka during the mass exodus which was caused by SMSs and MMSs.
Karnataka government deployed twenty five KSRP platoons, thirty five CAR platoons, six hundred home guards, and recruited fifteen thousand civilians to help outside Bangalore. Three companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF)were also requisitioned.
The ministerial team which had toured Karnataka and Maharashtra appealed to the students and people from Meghalaya who had fled the two states to return as all is well and situation is back to normal with a networking system firmly put in place.
Flanked by his two cabinet colleagues Ampareen Lyngdoh and AL Hek, Mondal said the team had various interactions with chief ministers of Karnataka and Maharashtra as well as government officials.
Mondal said, “The Chief Minister of Karnataka had also personally gone to meet NE people in the railway station who were fleeing the state and latter even visited Guwahati to assure that he will not leave any stone unturned to see that people of the region is safe and are not harassed.” He also promised to provide all possible.
Mondal informed that six lakhs people from north eastern region are staying in Karnataka of which two lakhs, fifty thousand live in of Bangalore.-By Our Reporter
