SHILLONG, MAY 9: A total of three pigs have reportedly died in three districts even as tissue samples have been sent for testing to a laboratory in Shillong.
According to a report from the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department, one case was reported at Tongseng (Sutnga) in East Jaintia Hills, one in Laitkor, East Khasi Hills and one in Nongthymmai village, Ri Bhoi.
It said that tissue samples collected from the three places have been sent to the DIO Shillong laboratory.
The state government has banned transportation of pigs from other states as well as inter-district transportation to prevent outbreak of African Swine Flu in the state following large scale death of pigs in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the department has completed conducting 720 awareness programmes, 974 telephonic briefing, 1118 pamphlet distributed, sanitization of 30 farms and 154 inspection of pork stalls, pig sheds and private farms.
