SHILLONG, SEPT 11: Meghalaya governor KK Paul said youths are the future of nation and the future of any society depends on its value system besides practical and spiritual bonding.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Yes+ Freedom programme held on Thursday. Paul stress on the need to channelize the youth towards the right direction.
Paul said, “Youth constitute large portion of Indian population and is certainly an advantage because they are gifted with an enormous energy and enthusiasm but this energy has to be channelize in the right direction so that they will contribute meaningfully to the society and the nation, only then the nation can get full benefit of this demographic dividend.”
Pointing out the role of consumerism in the life of a youth, Paul said consumerism is fast becoming the guiding philosophy of life for the affluent and the middle classes and even among the relatively weaker by the power of ordinary upraising and its extraordinary reach because of new development in Information and Technology. He said, “ Goods and services are no longer produce to meet real demands.”
Paul however advised the youth not to fall for consumerism but adhere to their own culture. He said, “Youth of our country have to realize the superficiality of consumerism, not to fall for it and adhere to basic values of our own culture.”
Paul also said that the youths must learn the importance of the idea of democracy, human rights and justice. He said, “Protection of rights of women and children and awareness on the need of ecology and environment are the very important areas that concerns the youths.”
Paul also spoke about the connection between personality and science.
The programme is specifically designed for students and young professionals, a powerful life-skills program to accelerate personal all-round excellence. Students from various colleges and education Institution participated in the programme.
The powerful breathing techniques taught in the YES+ infuse high energy levels in youth.
The four day programme will also focus on career counseling by experts, workshops and pulse diagnosis camp by reputed Ayurveda doctor from Bangalore.
Home minister Roshan Warjri, urban affairs minister M Ampareen Lyngdoh, former minister Manas Choudhury and former Rajya Sabha MP BB Dutta were also present.
