Shillong, Sept 15: The countdown to the first ever “Meghalaya Youth Icon Awards” kick-start Monday with the organizer “Avenues”- a Shillong based finishing and communication skills academy- constituted Award Selection Committee announcing five names that got the highest votes from the two hundreds personalities.
Voting lines for choosing one from among the five shortlisted potential “Meghalaya Youth Icon” will open September 16 and close October 1 . The five personalities that got the highest votes at the preliminary rounds of voting are:
(a) Conrad Sangma –Leader of Opposition, Founder SS Netcom Pvt Ltd, Treasurer PA Sangma foundation.
(b) Eugene Niangti – Promoter, Thrills Fun Park (Meghalaya’s first Go-Karting Circuit).
(c) Junestar Kharbuli – President of Bouncers’ Association of Meghalaya (BAM) and National Arm Wrestling Competitor.
(d) Lhai Sing Khongshei – an Activist, Advocate, grassroot Social Worker.
(e) Larsing Ming Sawyan – Managing Director, Centre Point Group Enterprises/Gen. Sec., Lajong Football Club / working president, Meghalaya Tourism Development.
Avenues Managing Director, Mark Stone Laitflang told reporter at a news conference Saturday, “Altogether over 20, 000 votes were received during the campaign.”
Avenue constituted the “Meghalaya Youth Icon Award” to acknowledge and recognize the hard-work, determination and grit of the youths who had dared to travel the uncharted road and achieve the goal not only for themselves but also opening an avenue for others. The idea of the award is to “recognize the contribution of such individuals” that in turn will inspire other youths.
From September 16 to October 1 people can vote by sending SMS by typing the Icon’s full name to “97742-12161.The organizer will also undertake massive campaign by distributing pamphlet with information about the five finalists from Monday next. – By Our Reporter
