SHILLONG, OCT 10: A national level conference and awareness programme on ‘World Sight Day ‘was organized by Bansara Eye-Care Centre in collaboration with Martin Luther Christian University’s (MLCU) allied health sciences department and Meghalaya Blindness Control Society (MBCS) at Earle Holiday Home.
Medical Director of Bansara Eye-Care Centre Dr. Jenny V Basaiawmoit said, “ With conference like this we hope to have path breaking conversations that should help policy makers to plan and decide in favour of the patient. We want eye care to reach every corner of the state and the conference is a chance to solve the problems that stop us from reaching the people at the ground zero.”
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Meghalaya governor KK Paul said that preventive medicine is the best medicine. He observed, “Eye Care has to go to every corner and cover every nook and corner of the state.”
Paul also called upon the organizations to converge with government organization for better service. A free eye camp was also organized and Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri flagged off the camp in which various patients were also provided with free medicines.
Other stakeholders also talked about the science of the eye and about the treatment in which the common man cans effort.
World Sight Day is a global annual day of awareness. World Sight Day is co-ordinated by the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness under the Vision 2020 and it is a global initiative.
The main advocacy event for “Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” a global effort to prevent blindness is created by WHO and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.- By Our Reporter
