SHILLONG, JUNE 5:Along with the rest of the world, World Environment Day was observed on Wednesday jointly by the Divisional Forest Officer office , Social Forestry Division, East Khasi hills district and the Meghalaya Bharat Scout & Guides by organizing a simple function at the Bharat Scout and Guides Training Centre, Umtyngar, about 22kms from Shillong.
The theme for the World Environment Day is “Think, Eat, Save”.
Legislator and government chief whip RV Lyngdoh graced the occasion as the chief guest which was attended by C Budnah, additional, PCCF (Wildlife), CP Marak, CCF, Social Forestry and Environment, A Swer, state secretary, Bharat Scouts and Guides, P Kharkongor, Sordar, of Laitkroh, students, scouts and guides and others.
Lyngdoh lauded the organizers for holding the programme to express concern over the degradation of the environment. Stressing the importance of protecting the environment by all stakeholders, Lyngdoh emphasize that the very survival of mankind depends on clean environment.
Lyngdoh urged the students in particular and younger generation in general to take responsibility in creating awareness about the urgent need for the protection and preservation of clean and hygienic surroundings.
The other highlight of the world environment day includes power point presentation on the subject “Status of Environment of Meghalaya” by CP Marak, song and skit presented by the students and distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners and participants of slogan, drawing and painting competitions on the theme.
Planting of tree saplings in an around the training centre by the Lyngdoh other dignitaries and students was part of the programme.- By Our Reporter
