SHILLONG, OCT 11: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) leader Pynshngain N Syiem today said the party is still waiting for the sub-committee to submit its report before convening the central working committee (CWC) to resolve all “misunderstandings” among its members.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Syiem said the sub-committee comprises of the four MLAs of the party, has been entrusted to find out ways and means to end the misunderstandings and to recommend on how to further strengthen the party in the state.
The PDF has witnessed division among the 10 MDCs of the party where 8 of them have decided to support the HS Shylla-led executive committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Of these, three MDCs have been suspended by the party for their alleged anti-party activities while it is however yet to take a call in as far as the other five MDCs, who have recently took a similar decision to extend support to Shylla, is concerned.
However terming the division as a minor misunderstanding, the chairman said such infightings among leaders and members is a common internal problem in every political party.
“But we are confident that within a short period of time all these misunderstandings will be resolved in the upcoming meeting of the CWC, which will be held immediately after the MLAs submits their report and recommendations on the matter,” he added.
On the other hand, the former Mawsynram legislator defended by saying that the MDCs of the party had extended support to the KHDA-led executive committee at their own individual capacity.
Syiem, a former KHADC chief and a sitting MDC of Mawsynram, had also unsuccessfully contested the Ranikor bye-election held in August this year after losing his Mawsynram seat in the last Assembly polls.
Asked how tough is it for him to run the party after being out of power, the PDF leader said there is no such challenges since a party is a collective responsibility of MLAs, MDCs and party leaders.
He also denied of having been “sidelined” by the party and said that the recommendations to be made by the MLAs will no doubt help in streamlining the functioning of the party.
Of the four MLAs, two are cabinet ministers in the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government. When asked on the performance of the present state government, the PDF leader refused to comment but only said, “I cannot comment since we are part and parcel of the government.”
