SHILLONG, DEC 18: The opposition Congress in Meghalaya has expressed confidence that it will come back to power in the state after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“We have full confident that we will come back to power after next year’s elections,” Congress chief Celestine Lyngdoh told reporters here on Tuesday.
He said throughout the country, the BJP is saying Congress-mukt Bharat but the recent results in the five states are an indication of what is to come.
Lyngdoh while stating that Lok Sabha elections will tell the mood of the people said, “Let us wait and see.”
Whether there is new alignment between the Congress and other political parties, the Congress president while refusing to comment on the matter simply said that time will tell.
Asked the reason for the party’s decision to wait till next year despite having the edge to form the new government in the state, Lyngdoh said that the Congress wants to give a chance for the present MDA government to perform.
“Let the people know how the NPP-led MDA is performing because they have made tall promises that in six months the coal ban will be removed and what has happened now,” he said.
