SHILLONG, AUG 9: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is launching wifi hotspots in Meghalaya and other two states – Mizoram and Tripura in the North East region.
Addressing newsmen as part of celebrating the Quit India Movement here, Chief General Manager for North East-1 Circle KK Saxena informed that the wifi hotspots would be launched within this month.
He said that NE-1 Telecom Circle is planning to install 121 Wi-Fi hotspots – which will include 71 in urban areas and 50 in rural areas – in the three states.
So far, Saxena said a total of 34 wifi hotspots have been installed and will be made operational. Of these, 10 are in Meghalaya and 12 each for Mizoram and Tripura.
The locations identified for extending wifi facility are mostly in Shillong and these are NEIGHRIHMS, Police Bazar, Happy Valley, Forest Colony, JN Stadium, CGMT office, Garikhana, Rynjah exchange, GMTD, Shillong and ICAR complex.
The wifi hotspots will be launched in three segments- BSNL wifi, BSNL 4G plus and BSNL boradfi and customers can recharge from Rs 10 to Rs 1999 to use the services.The hotspots would function within a range of Rs 50 metre to 100 metres,he said
On the other hand, the chief general manager also informed that the BSNL has also decided to revive the landline and broadband by launching its customer friendly schemes for fixed access network.
These include virtual landline at Rs 99 per year in which customer will be allotted a landline number of his choice and all incoming calls to this number shall be forwarded to one number of any network of subscriber’s choice without any cost implication.
For new landline, broadband and FTTH connections, he said that BSNL has launched this scheme with effect from July 18 in which installation charge of Rs 600 for landline, Rs 250 for broadband and Rs 750 for FTTH connection has been made free.
