Wholesale markets

SHILLONG, JUNE 5: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Friday informed that the government has decided to allow the wholesale markets at Mawlonghat and Anjalee parking lot to open six days in a week from June 8.

Lyngdoh told reporters that at present the wholesale markets are allowed to open only for four days – Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

“However taking into consideration that vegetables are perishable goods, we have decided that the markets should remain open for six days, to ensure that farmers are not affected,” he said. The decision was taken after a meeting held with the deputy commissioner, East Khasi Hills Matsiewdor War Nongbri.

The minister further informed that he has also requested the Urban Affairs minister Hamletson Dohling to put big dustbins at the two wholesale markets in order to maintain cleanliness.
