In view of the upcoming General Elections 2024 to the Lok Sabha, the District Election Officer, West Garo Hills district Jagdish Chelani has convened a meeting today at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura to discuss about organising SVEEP activities in the district and ethical voting.
During the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills incharge Election Nipon Hajong informed that numerous SVEEP activities would be undertaken in the coming days consisting of Awareness campaign targeting first voters, young and older adults and individuals with disabilities including the areas having less numbers of votes, door to door signature campaign by BLOs including many other SVEEP related activities. Mentioning that Chandmari and Fancy Valley polling stations had less voter turnout in the last election, therefore, different activities are being planned to increase the number of voters in these areas, he said.
Further, the DEO highlighted ethical voting for a stronger Democracy and urged all eligible voters to uphold the principle of ethical voting adding that ethical voting ensures transparent electoral process free from influence and manipulation and is also a powerful tool to fight against corruption and other forms of malpractice, etc.
