SHILLONG, SEPT 21: Meghalaya deputy chief minister RC Laloo on Monday said with the inclusion of the incomplete water supply project – Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme phase-III- in the newly launched Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) by the NDA government he hoped that the most important water project will now be completed.
Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme phase-III was earlier funded under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Laloo was replying to a question posed by United Democratic Party Jemino Mawthoh on the fate of this particular water project.
Laloo told the autumn session of the Meghalaya assembly, “With the inclusion of the incomplete scheme under AMRUT, we hope the project will be completed.”
Laying of pipe lines for GSWSS phase-III project have been pending for some years and the blue-coloured water pipes both big and small sizes can be seen dumped in various parts of Shillong.
Mawthoh pointed to the problem of acute water shortage in Shillong and also in the whole urban agglomeration. He said whenever the issue of delay was brought to the notice of the government the reply for the incomplete GSWSS phase-III had either been because of release of payment from the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority or the state PHE department claimed that Rs 17 crore had been cut from the fund as the state government had not complied with certain reforms as instructed by the union government.- By Our Reporter
