TURA, FEB 24: The ongoing repair works of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) water reservoirs has led to shortage of water supply in different localities of Tura in West Garo Hills.
Several localities in Tura have been affected. Council officials said that the repair works would take a week.
“We have been working on the repair work on the reservoir for a few days now and will complete the work by this Saturday. Regular supply will be possible after the repair work is completed,” the official added.
Major repair works are being held at Hawakhana reservoir, which is located adjacent to Tura Government College.
The dilapidated condition of the reservoir had led to a lot of discomfort. There is a threat of a complete collapse of the tank, which can pose threat to adjacent buildings. The entire structure had leakages and pipe had busted. “Repair works is on war footing and we are hopeful to fix the wrongs”, the official affirmed.
“We have been trying to lessen the burden as much as we can but we too are restrained due to a lack of funds. Through goodwill we have been sending tankers to various localities based on needs.
The Tura Municipal Board and Public Health Engineering department are working overtime to ensure that the residents get water but until the repair, all of us will just have to bear through the times. The repair work on the tank was absolutely necessary as it was a ticking time bomb of disaster”, said Pravin Bakshi, deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills.
The reservoir has a capacity of 5 lakh litres per day and had not been repaired since its construction.-From Our Correspondent
