SHILLONG, JULY 24: Reminding that traditions have social control to protect water sources, Meghalaya additional chief secretary PBO Warjri said that there is a need to evolve the modern institution by introducing social institutions doctrine to make people aware of the importance of water and protection of the natural resources from depletion.

Inaugurating a two-day ‘Retreat on Water’ programme organized by the Meghalaya Water Resources Development in collaboration along with Meghalaya Water Foundation (MWF) at Polo, Warjri expressed concern on climate change due to daily human activities because of lack of awareness and understanding as people are busy in pursuit of economic growth and the desire to acquire economic growth and development.

Warjri stressed on the need to organize ourselves in terms of water management, to identify the sources of water and the need to preserve and conserve water for human consumption and to protect and rejuvenate the depleted natural resources wherever possible.- By Our Reporter
