SHILLONG, DEC 22: Meghalaya health minister Roshan Warjri on Thursday requested the union government to allot at least 18 seats to the local indigenous students in the newly inaugurated North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), first of its kind in the north eastern region.
Warjri said, “We urged the centre to consider a minimum of 18 seats (9 Homeopathy and 9 Ayurveda) out of 100 which is at par with seats allotted by NEIGHRIMS for the MBBS to local indigenous population in Meghalaya.”
Warjri also submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) AYUSH Shripad Yessa Naik during the inauguration of NEIAH at Mawdiangdiang on Thursday.
With regards to the process of recruitment in the institute, Warjri urges the centre to give preference to the people of the state on the basis of merit.
She said this will help overcome the language barrier and make the people understand and acceptable about the significance of AYUSH system of treatment.
Later speaking to reporters, Naik said, “We have already told them that at the time of admission, we will give priority to the local students. It is a small demand and we will think about it.”
