SHILLONG, JUNE 6: Pooh poohing over the tall claims that the state government would address the issue of crime against women effectively, the state BJP said that crime against women, especially rapes, are increasing despite having the first woman home minister Roshan Warjri . The party said that Warjri has failed as a home minister as the rape of two minors by a police sub-inspector Nurul Islam, who surprising escaped from the police reserve quarter, is a clear indication that crime against women is increasing.
The state BJP said people of the state had high expectation from the first woman home minister that crimes against women will be effectively tackled and women will feel safer as Warjir had promised to give better protection to the women community and speedy justice to the victims.
The BJP reminded that Wajri had promised that fast track court would provide speedy justice to the women, but said the saffron party that the crimes against women instead are increasing in the state.
Condemning the recent rape incident in Garo hills, the state BJP said even in the constituency of chief minister in Ampati, a rape case of a minor was registered.
The party also expressed surprise as to how the accused police officer who was supposed to be under lock – up (custody) was kept in the police quarter from where he escaped raising eyebrows against the police department.- By Our Reporter
