SHILLONG, AUG 17: The post matric scholarship will be released to the students soon by the state government as fund has been placed at the disposal of the state education department by the union government. The students will get the 2015-16 and the pending amount for the 2014-15 financial years.
Meghalaya education commissioner & secretary DP Wahlang informed that the amount for these two financial years have been placed at the disposal of the state government. He said, “We will withdraw the amount and then released it to the students.”
For these two financial years, the students need not submit their Aadhaar details. But the union government has made submission of Aadhaar details a necessity for the 2016-17 financial years to avail the scholarship by the students. The project is yet to take off in the state as there have been opposition against its implementation.
The KSU has opposed making the submission of Aadhaar details compulsory for availing the scholarship. The students union had a meeting Wahlang recently.
Wahlang informed that the state government has already written to three union ministries on the apprehension of making submission of the Aadhaar details compulsory for availing the 2016-17 scholarship by the students. He informed the state government is waiting for the centre’s response.- By Our Reporter
