Shillong, Sept 21: Launching the Course on Computer Concepts (CCC) in Khasi language at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NEILIT) at Nongrim hill Friday, Meghalaya IT Commissioner & Secretary DP Wahlang called it a “historic event” as the programme is the first of its kind in Meghalaya.
Wahlang said the mother tongue is the language in which “we dream” and it was a challenge to translate computer concepts into vernacular language but none the less, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NEILIT) have done a tremendous work in performing such a difficult task.
Addressing the inaugural function of the “Launching of Course on Computer Concepts (CCC) Online Multimedia E-Learning content in Khasi. Wahlang said the NEILIT has progress rapidly since the last three and the Information Technology department is in the process of allotting 15 acres of land at New Shillong (Mawdiangdiang) for construction of new and a much bigger campus for NEILIT.
Revealing the low penetration of IT in the state, Wahlang said, “With the launching of CCC in Khasi language, this will bridge the gap between the have and have not”. He said this is the only tool which will be effective and bring the people closer in IT.
The CCC Course has already been translated in 23 Indian languages and NIELIT Shillong has successfully completed the translation of the English CCC material into Khasi language with the assistance of Khasi Department, NEHU.
The Course on Computer Concepts (CCC) is a skill based IT Literacy course for the common people and the programme of NEILIT is an outcome of the recommendation of National Task Force on Information Technology and Software Development.
Since the use of computers is increasing day by day, even the demand of the CCC Course is also increasing and a huge number of people from different parts of the country have already completed the course and till date, 5.1 lakhs candidates have so far passed the CCC examination.
Further, a Multimedia E-Learning Content has subsequently been developed from the CCC Khasi book which is being released in two versions (CD and online version) for dissemination to everyone desiring to equip themselves with the basics of IT skills- By Our Reporter
