VPP demands MPSC to put on hold personal interview for MPS

The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Friday demanded the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) to rectify the mistakes and keep the personal interview for the Meghalaya Police eservice (MPS) in abeyance.

In a letter to the MPSC chairman, VPP joint secretary Shemborlang Rynjah said, “Therefore, the party strongly demands rectification of the mistakes and to keep the personal interview in abeyance pending rectification.”

Expressing concern over the selection of candidate for personal interview to the post of MPS, Rynjah said, “The party after a careful and thorough examination had identified serious lapses on the issue.”

He said that as per the advertisement dated August 2, 2019, the method of selection vide Para 8 clause V (c) stipulates that the cut-off ratio of candidates to be called for the personal interview would be with variation from 1:10 to 1:2.5 depending on the number of posts advertised.

“Even in the event that the minimum ratio of 1:2.5 is taken into consideration, the number of candidates for the personal interview should have been 42 or 43 candidates for 17 posts.

However, the actual number of candidates selected for the interview was only 27 according to the result notified by the commission on July 25, 2024,” he said.

“The action taken by the commission to reduce the number of candidates to be called for the personal interview is questionable, as there was no official notification that was made public from the commission to reduce the number of candidates vis-à-vis the MPS advertisement,” he said while adding that in view of the above, such action taken by the commission has created a lot of doubts and disappointment on the selection process of the candidates. Moreover, the integrity and sanctity of the commission is questionable, he further stated.
