SHILLONG, FEB 18: Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday appealed to the people of Meghalaya to vote for the BJP.
He was addressing four public meetings in Garo Hills at Mahendraganj, Rongjeng, Mendipathar, and Kharkutta. Himanata Sarma was greeted by large crowds and tumultuous applause at each of the four locations.
Sarma drew their attention to the speed of execution of Central government schemes in Assam vis-a-vis Meghalaya.
He said the benefits of important schemes like PM Awas Yojna had benefited very few families in Meghalaya when compared to Assam.
He said that these schemes will truly reach the people if a BJP government is elected in the state as corruption from in-between will be removed.
Himanta Biswa also spoke about the Arun Uday scheme that is running successfully in Assam.
He said, under this scheme one unmarried or elderly woman of every BPL family received Rs 1200 on the 10th of every month. Almost 35 Lakh women benefit from this scheme in Assam every month. He said, the BJP could extend similar empowering benefits in Meghalaya too, if elected to power.
The BJP government in Assam had promised to give employment to 1 Lakh youth last year. Out of this, 50,000 young people have already been given appointments, and the remaining will be appointed before May this year. The youth of Meghalaya are reeling under the burden of unemployment and only the BJP can bring sustainable development that will create employment in the state, he said.
