SHILLONG, MAR 11: Agitated villager of Majipara, near the Assam border in Garo hills, lynched three militants allegedly belonging to the ANVC(B) after the police failed to respond to their complaint that the three had come to the village for extortion.
The incident took place on Monday’s night when angry mob lynched the three militants after their cry for help from the Kharkutta police outpost allegedly elicited no response.
However the North Garo hills SP JFK Marak said that the villagers had called a police battalion and such cases does not fall under their jurisdiction. He said, “We can only reprimand the officer as it is not his job to tackle such case.”
The killed militants have been identified as Willick Ch Momin (30) of Rongbu and Sengbith Sangma (27) from Adokgre and Luck R Marak (30) is from Adokgre. The villagers said their was a fourth militants who managed to escape. The bodies were taken to Dudhnoi for post mortem.
A double barrel gun was recovered along with mobile phones. – By Our Reporter
