SHILLONG, FEB 18: Electorates from eight polling stations under the Maweit village in West Khasi hills has decided to boycott the upcoming MDC as well as Lok Sabha elections to protest against the government’s failure to improve road connecting Maweit to Nongstoin.
The eight polling stations includes Risiang, Mynraw, Nongtraw, Maweit, Mawmarin, Miangshang, Nongshyrkon and Porkhadoh.
The boycott decision was taken during a public meeting at Maweit organized by the Western Youth Welfare Council (WYWC), Nongtre Lyngngam Achik Youth Federation (NLAYF) and Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) Maweit circle along with the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Maweit Area on Monday. about five hundred people attended the meeting.
SK Dewsaw, president NLAYF said for 50 years the people have suffered because of bad condition and the Maweit roads connect to Nongstoin which the villagers has to take to go to the district headquarter. He said the people’s demand has been to improve the road but the government and the public representatives have not taking note of their demand.
Dewsaw said that the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong and ngos have submitted memorandum to the government many times citing their plight because of the bad road condition but the road continues to remain as bad as ever. – By Our Reporter
