Village deadline to MCCL

SHILLONG, APRIL 30: The Mawmluh Sirdarship in East Khasi hills district on Tuesday served a four-day deadline to the state-owned Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited to review the recent recruitment results declared by the company.

The decision was taken at an emergent meeting of the Sirdarship’s executive committee on Monday after only a single candidate from Mawmluh, out of the many who had applied for different posts, was recruited by the company.

“We are deeply hurt and felt insulted by the results with only one candidate from the area deemed fit to serve the company,” said sirdar of the village dorbar P. S. Lyngdoh in his letter to the MCCL managing director.

“We had even hoped that some casual labourers from our village who have been working in the company for a considerable period would be absorbed into regular service, but that is not happening,” the letter said.

Lyngdoh said that only a limited number of candidates who had appeared for the practical and written tests were called for the personal test. “This is a matter of grave injustice to the residents of the village where the factory is located, and from whose quarry the company procures its limestone at a very minimal rate,” he said.

This, he said, is a violation of the agreement that the company had signed with the village dorbar. “The company management should review the results by showing due regards to the agreement in both letter and spirit within May 4,” he demanded.

Lyngdoh warned that if the company fails to adhere to the demand put forth, the sirdarship will be forced to take alternative course of action as it deems fit and proper. “We will hold the management responsible for any incidents that may arise,” he added. (By Our Reporter)
