TURA, JUNE 23: An under trial prisoner (UTP) who is the United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) militant Rex Miller R. Sangma escaped from a government hospital in Tura on Monday leading to the suspension of seven constables.
Rex Miller R. Sangma was arrested on June 18 from Kharkutta in North Garo hills after another UALA militant Grikseng Sangma, who had been arrested from his house in Araimile locality, provided the information to the police.
Grikseng was arrested on June 18 and were on five days police remand. Rex Miller was undergoing treatment at Tura civil hospital June 20.
West Garo hills addition SP Bruno A Sangma said, “We have suspended seven constables, who were on duty at the hospital for negligence of duty. Rex Miller was an arm supplier for UALA. He was on a five day police remand”.
The additional SP said that Rex Miller had complained of loose motion and was taken to the hospital. He said, “We have asked hospital to submit report, as to why he was kept so long. We are waiting for the report.”
Quoting hospital authorities, the additional SP said, “The cadre was found running, when a sister managed to see him who in turn informed the constable at the hospital. However, they could not manage to catch him”.
The police officer said that departmental enquiry will be initiated against the constables, who were on duty today.- From Our Correspondent
