SHILLONG, SEPT 24: Meghalaya joined the rest of the country to condemn the recent terror attack killing at least 18
Indian soldiers at Uri in Jammu & Kashmir.
Over 6000 people from all walks of life took part in the signature campaign organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) at Khyndailad area on Saturday, as a mark of protest.
Apart from the state BJP leaders, men in uniform were also seen penning down their signatures on the flexes placed at the venue.
Later, a candle-light vigil was also organized to pay rich tribute and respect to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in fighting to protect the country.
Eighteen soldiers were killed in a militant attack in Urea area of Baramulla district on September 18. It was also considered as the deadliest attack on security forces in Kashmir in two decades.
“We strongly condemned the coward attack on our security forces,” BJYM state president Eugenestar Kurkalang told reporters.
BJYM Shillong city general secretary Nitin Khera added that they are targeting to collect at least 8000 signatures which would accordingly be sent to Uri, as a mark of extending solidarity and respect.
“We salute the brave soldiers who have laid down their lives to protect the sovereignty of the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the BJP state leader David Kharsati said that the signature campaign was organised to send a strong message that such terror attack is highly condemnable and will not be tolerated.-By Our Reporter
