Upgrade Sohra to a new district: MLA

During a short duration discussion in the Assembly, Pyngrope said the frontrunner for such a proposal should be the Sohra Civil Sub-Division. “It should be done as per parameters of the government,” he add”d.

According to him, the delivery to the people has been affected as the East Khasi Hills district has got only one deputy commissioner.

This came after the chief minister had announced the government’s decision to consider upgradation of the Mairang Civil Sub-Division into a district.

The Nongthymmai legislator also alleged that there are numbers of illegal gates set up by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.

He said that the law enforcers are turning a blind eye and the conclusion drawn from this is that they are hand in gloves. According to him similar incidents are also happening in Borsora and other parts of the state.

“I request the chief minister that this extortion should not be allowed as otherwise we will have to again stand in the House to demand suspension of the officials concerned,” he said.

According to him, due such extortion, the traders are left with no option but to increase the prices.
