SHILLONG, SEPT 27: The Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) has expressed confidence that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government will finalize its decision to upgrade the old existing ad hoc schools into a deficit system within November this year.
This was after a delegation of the FASTOM led by its president Kenneth Shadap met the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma requesting his intervention into the long pending demand of the teachers.
There are over 7,082 teachers working in 1,857 old existing ad hoc schools from lower primary to higher secondary level.
Addressing media persons, Shadap informed that the meeting was a fruitful one as the chief minister has assured the delegation that he would try to fulfill the demand of the teachers although it may not be 100 percent.
“We however told him (CM) that if you cannot upgrade the old existing ad hoc schools to a deficit system due to the financial crisis at least you can give a deficit pattern. The CM told us that he would see the financial condition of the government (before taking a call on the matter),” he said.
Shadap also informed that the delegation had requested the Chief Minister to again invite the delegation in October, to which he declined citing that he would be very busy.
“He however , assured to invite us in November. We have requested that the matter should be completed within November for finalizing the decision. We will be waiting till November,” he said.
“We are confident that the chief minister will take up the matter seriously,” he added.
According to him, most of the teachers have completed 25 years and above of their services.
