SHILLONG, MAY 13: Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma, today graced as Chief Guest the football finals of Assam Rifles CAPF under 19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament at JN Sports Stadium, Shillong.
Giving his Inaugural Address Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma said that such tournaments are a wonderful platform for budding talents in a state that is so passionate for football. He added that people converge together to witness the game which is in itself a unifying power. Congratulating Assam Rifles for its initiative the Chief Minister said that this endeavor will go a long way in nurturing and preparing the talents to participate in international events and infuse professionalism in them in the long run. He was also hopeful that with such tournaments Meghalaya will find its rightful place in FIFA under 19 World Cup.
The final match was played between West Jaintia Hills District Sports Association and St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong. The tournament which started from 1st May 2017 had participating teams both from girls and boys. The second Phase of the tournament is scheduled in June 2017 that will witness teams from all over North East.
Minister, Sports, Govt of Meghalaya, Zenith M Sangma, Chief Secretary, K S Kropha and senior officials from Department of Sports and youth Affairs were also present for the final match. Earlier, Director General, Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan delivered the Welcome Address.
