SHILLONG, MAR 12: Meghalaya deputy chief minister RC Laloo informed the assembly that a total of Rs 49.45 crore was released as compensation to landowners for expansion of the Umroi Airport.
Laloo, however, informed out of 308 landowners only 17 of them including the defence organization have not come forward to accept the compensation, Laloo said on Thursday.
Replying to a query raised by UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh, Laloo said that payment due to the Defence organization is Rs 5.20 crores and Rs 41.43 lakh to the 16 other land owners.
Earlier, Lyngdoh brought to notice of the house that a petition was submitted to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on non-release of compensation since 2008. On this, Laloo informed that district collector did received a complaint who looks after the compensation issue..
According to Laloo notices were served to all whose names appeared in the assessment list. He assured that the government is ready to pay the compensation if those who have not been paid come forward.- By Our Reporter
